What Is A Blackout Blind?

What Is A Blackout Blind?

Are you thinking of getting an easyblinds 100% blackout blind but you don’t know whether it is worth it? Or perhaps you have heard of them but you are not entirely sure what they do? Well, this article will explain more about the benefits you’ll get from an easyblinds blackout blind, how they work, and how they’re superior to the other products out there.

So, what is a blackout blind?

At its very simplest, a blackout blind is a covering, fixed at a window, designed to block out as much light as possible. Usually they are made of an opaque material, and people mainly use them in bedrooms, nurseries and home theatres to create a dark environment for sleeping, napping or watching movies. That’s not to say they are the only places they can be used - we have customers who use them in campervans, caravans … even on boats!

It is important to remember though, that most blackout blinds have gaps at the edges so will only block out some light, whereas easyblinds will block out 100% of the light.

Should I have blackout blinds in my room?

Installing easyblinds’ 100% blackout blinds can make a huge improvement to your life.

The most obvious way is by helping you enjoy a better night's sleep. If you find you have trouble dropping off due to it not being dark enough in your room, or you get woken up too early by the light, an easyblind 100% blackout blind can fix this. Early sunrises and late sunsets in the summer are obvious problems, but 100% blackout can be beneficial all year round by preventing things like street lights, car headlights and outside security lights disturbing your rest.

They are particularly good for parents with young children whose eyes spring open at the first glimmer of sunlight, or who have trouble napping during the day or going to bed on long summer days when it is still bright outside. We know first hand how hard this can be for parents - having a child that struggled to sleep when it was light was what led our founder Audrey to start easyblinds in the first place!

Blackout blinds can also help you save energy by insulating your home. The thick material we use for our easynight premium will reduce the amount of heat escaping from your rooms when the weather is cold. And when the sun is blazing in the hotter months, they are great for blocking out heat as well as light. This insulating quality can help reduce your energy bills all year round.

They are also useful for giving you extra privacy, as once you have them fitted they will completely block the view into your room from outside - very handy if you live on a busy street or if you have neighbours close by.

And something we have seen more of over the years is people buying easyblinds so they can create a more immersive home theatre experience. They put the blinds up at the window to darken the room, then settle in with drinks and snacks to enjoy a good movie.

Blackout blinds are also great for reducing glare on computer screens and other devices - extremely useful as more and more of us work from home.

How do I use a blackout blind?

When we designed the easyblind, our first priority was to make sure it gave 100% blackout, but it was also really important to us that they would be simple to install. So whichever easyblind blackout blind you choose, there is no need for drilling or hammering, or any tools at all. Instead, you just stick the special self-adhesive frame fastener tape or strips around the window frame, then press the blackout material against it. 100% blackout in seconds!

What are the benefits of a blackout blind?

An easyblind blackout blind will help you enjoy more sleep, and regularly getting a better sleep leads to reduced stress, an improved mood and increased energy levels. You are able to concentrate better, remember things more easily and be more productive. Studies show that getting more sleep lowers your risk of developing a chronic disease, and your immune system is more efficient at fighting off illnesses.

And when your household is benefitting from more sleep too, everyone’s quality of life is significantly improved.
