Why measuring matters more than you think
A blackout blind that's even a few centimetres too narrow — or too short — will let light creep in around the edges, defeating the whole point. Getting the measurements right is the single most important step before you buy.
This guide walks you through exactly how to measure for an easyblinds blackout blind.
How easyblinds blinds fit
All easyblinds blinds — both easynight and easynight premium — are designed to fit inside the window recess. The blind is sized to cover the entire window frame plus an extra 8cm in both width and drop, so that 4cm folds around and sits flat against the recess on each side, and 4cm folds over at the top and bottom. This wrap-around fit is what delivers a true, complete blackout.
Step 1: Measure the width
Measure the full width of your window frame (not just the glass). Then add 8cm to that measurement. This gives the blind the 4cm of excess on each side needed to fold around into the recess and block all light at the edges.
For example: if your window frame is 90cm wide, you need a blind that is 98cm wide.
Step 2: Measure the drop
Measure the full height of your window frame from top to bottom (not just the glass). Then add 8cm to that measurement. The same 4cm wrap-around applies at the top and bottom of the recess.
For example: if your window frame is 120cm tall, you need a blind with a drop of 128cm.
A note on handles and window catches
Before finalising your measurements, check for any handles, window catches, or other fittings that protrude from the frame or recess. Run your measuring tape over anything sticking out rather than around it — this ensures your measurements account for these obstructions, so the blind sits flat and functions properly once fitted.
Step 3: Note down both measurements
Once you have your width and drop, write both down before ordering. The easyblinds fabric can be used either way around, so there's no need to worry about which dimension goes first — just make sure you have both figures to hand when you order.
